STR license- City of San Diego

Starting May 1, 2023, you now need a license to operate a short term rental (STR) in the City of San Diego. If an operator was not already in compliance with transit occupancy taxes (TOT) please review the applicable taxes. More info on TOT at the County of San Diego Tax website.

There are still Tier 3 licenses available per the city’s website

Please review STR guidelines in the various relevant cities if you are considering purchasing a property to STR or if you are looking to build an ADU and restrictions on ADU rentals in the relevant jurisdiction. For condos, check with the HOA on rental restrictions.
